LGIO Scraps 155 Tourney and Gatineau Shows

Canadian MMA news rumor..

By: Marc-Andre Drolet
Top MMA News has heard from several sources today that the Let’s Get it On promotion has scrapped their 155 pound tournament and has cancelled all Gatineau shows. It is rumored that issues with the Quebec Athletic Commission may be at the root of the problem. Several camps have told Top MMA News that problems with matchups and the size of the LGIO cage could be the culprit.

Apparently, LGIO decided to eliminate the Lightweight division and only hold the Welterweight tournament with all fights located at the River Cree Casino.

Tickets are still available for the Gatineau show on Ticketmaster despite these new rumors.

Attempts to contact President Elaine McCarthy by email and matchmaker Matt Stansell by text have been unreturned. This story will be updated as further news becomes available

UFC exec Marc Ratner still pursuing Toronto show, legislative changes in Canada

Article Written by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Apr 30, 2010

The Ultimate Fighting Championship next weeks hosts its third annual show in Montreal, and in June, the organization hosts its first-ever event in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

However, UFC officials are still targeting what they call the "hottest city of them all" for an upcoming show: Toronto.

While a recent guest on MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio), UFC Vice President of Regulatory and Governmental Affairs Marc Ratner said the UFC is targeting Toronto as part of an overall bigger push to change Canada's criminal code.

As with other Canadian locales, Toronto, which is the Ontario capital and Canada's largest city with 2.5 million residents, deems MMA illegal because of their interpretation of the law. Additionally, since not all provinces have regulatory bodies, individual cities also sometimes have their own interpretations.
