MFC-HDNet extend partnership New six-event deal will capture organization’s exciting growth

 The Maximum Fighting Championship will remain a frontrunner in showcasing live mixed martial arts to a massive international audience with a new six-event contract teamed with broadcast partner HDNet.

Since partnering with HDNet in 2008, nine MFC events have been featured live on HDNet Fights, beginning with MFC 15: Rags to Riches and through to the most recent MFC 25: Vindication. During the partnership, viewers from the United States, Canada, and Mexico have tuned in live on HDNet to see the Maximum Fighting Championship and its power-packed lineup of talented fighters.

The newly signed deal, which runs through the end of 2011, includes the fast-approaching MFC 26: Retribution to be held at the River Cree Resort & Casino right outside Edmonton Alberta , Canada, on Friday, Sept. 10.

“I am even more excited about this new agreement between the Maximum Fighting Championship and HDNet than when we signed our initial partnership,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich, who personally welcomed HDNet Owner and renowned entrepreneur Mark Cuban to the Maximum Fighting Championship at MFC 17.

“We have learned so much since then thanks to our business relationship. We have gone very far in improving our product and we are ready to take things to the next level to become real players on the worldwide stage.”

Viewers of the MFC on HDNet Fights have seen spectacular fights over the past two years. In that span, champions have been crowned – Antonio McKee, Emanuel Newton, Trevor Prangley, and Pat Healy – and numerous fighters have become hot international commodities. Amongst the biggest names that have stepped into the MFC ring are fighters such as Ryan Jimmo, Ryan Ford, Thales Leites, Paul Daley, Benson Henderson, Pete Spratt, Bryan Baker, and John Alessio.

MMA fans across North America have been fortunate enough to see many heart-pounding fights during the MFC-HDNet partnership including the MFC’s 2009 Fight of the Year between Mike Nickels and David Heath, and highlight-reel finishes dished out by the likes of Dwayne Lewis, Bobby Lashley, and Aron Lofton.

“This new long-term deal keeps Canada’s No. 1 MMA promotion on ‘Your Home of MMA’ – HDNet,” said Andrew Simon, CEO of HDNet Fights.

The Maximum Fighting Championship is the only Canadian-based mixed martial arts organization airing on live television, and has drawn praise for its impressive climb.

Both fighter picked up big wins in the WEC putting Chris "The Hammer" Horodecki at 2 straight and Mark "The Machine" Hominick at 4 straight and 3 straight WEC victories, putting him right in the mix for the World's most prestigious 145 lb belt and a claim as the world's best at Featherweight.

The baddest man on the planet, reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar will attempt to successfully defend his title for a third-consecutive time, this time against unbeaten Cain Velasquez, who is looking to take Lesnar’s belt and become the first Mexican-American heavyweight champion in fighting history. Broadcast live from the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., the much anticipated fight card also features the light heavyweight match-up between Tito Ortiz and his former “The Ultimate Fighter” protégé, Matt Hamill.

“Throughout fighting history, there has never been a Mexican-American heavyweight champion, but at UFC 121, Cain Velasquez will try to make history and become the first,” UFC President Dana White said. “To do that though, he must defeat the baddest man on the planet, UFC heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. Also, fresh off his destruction of Dan Henderson, Jake Shields enters the UFC, and he’s got his sights set on the welterweight title, but he’s got to get by Martin ‘The Hitman’ Kampmann first.”

Coming off his UFC 116 win over interim title holder Shane Carwin, Lesnar comes to UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez willing to put his title on the line just three months after defending it. A former NCAA National Wrestling Champion, Lesnar made his MMA debut in 2007, and has since skyrocketed up the ranks to become one of the most feared fighters in the sport. Now, Lesnar looks to defeat Velasquez, the game’s top rising star. Velasquez last met “Minotauro” Nogueira in the Octagon in February, finishing him with a TKO in the first round.

In addition to this highly-anticipated main fight card, the UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez Fathom event will include the pivotal welterweight showdown between 170-pound contenders Jake Shields, in his Octagon debut, and Martin Kampmann, winner of four of his last five fights. Ed “Wild” West Faces Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky For the Bantamweight World Title, October 14th at Bellator 32 in Kansas City, MO

CHICAGO, Ill. (October 1, 2010) – Bellator Fighting Championships will crown its Bantamweight Champion when dynamic Ed "Wild" West meets Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky in a Bellator Season 3 Bantamweight World Championship Fight.

“Our Bantamweight division has been fiercely competitive from the first fight, so whether its Ed or Zach who captures this World title, they’ll have earned it every step of the way,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Both of these guys are tremendously talented, great competitors and true sportsman. This has the makings of a really great world title fight”

“Wild” West enters the fight on an impressive seven fight win streak, including tough decision victories against Bryan Goldsby and Jose Vega in the opening rounds of the Bantamweight Tournament. While those victories were impressive in their own right, West knows Makvosky may be his toughest test yet.

“I’ve definitely had to train differently for not only Zach, the fight itself,” West said regarding the potential five round fight. “As the fight moves on it will become harder and harder to lock up a submission, and our endurance levels need to be taken to the next level. It’s going to be a war.”

While West is focused only on Makovsky, it’s difficult for the Tucson native not to look past the fight at hand and think about the glory that comes with being a Bellator Champion.

“Winning the Championship would be more important than anything I have done in the MMA world,” said West. “To win this tournament, you have to win three incredibly tough fights in six weeks. If you can pull that off, it speaks volumes, and it would take my game to the next level.”

Makvosky, a native of Philadelphia, is on a win streak of his own collecting victories in his last five fights. The 5’8 grappling ace’s last two fights have gone the distance; however, the distance is longer in this fight.

“I’m not as concerned with Ed as I am with the length of this fight,” said Makovsky. “With that said, Ed is going to be a huge challenge, and probably the most well rounded fighter I have faced. I’m excited to see what I can do.”

‘D-Bomb’ ready to blow at Breaking Point With new four-fight deal, Lewis eyeing big result at MFC 27 against Al-Hassan

Knowing he was down to the last fight on his contract, Dwayne Lewis figured he had no other choice than to boldly re-affirm his position in the Maximum Fighting Championship.

Lewis went out and backed up the rare boastful statements he made in the lead-up to MFC 26, demolishing Mike Nickels in less than two minutes. Lewis staked his claim for a new deal and MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich made his feelings known at the post-fight press conference, vowing that Lewis would soon receive a new multi-fight contract.

And now, with a fresh four-fight deal in hand, Lewis (12-5) will truly step to the forefront at MFC 27: Breaking Point when he squares off against Razak Al-Hassan (10-2) in one of the featured bouts on the HDNet Fights televised main card. Lewis barely had to break a sweat in his last outing as he worked over Nickels with well-placed punches that dropped the former MFC Fight of the Year winner several times en route to a succinct stoppage. The win was Lewis’s eighth knockout of his career and catapulted him into the high-profile clash with Al-Hassan.

“I have to admit that I love where I am right now,” said Lewis of his lengthy journey to a prominent spot on an MFC lineup. “It took me a while to get serious about my training and really set goals for myself. Now I think I’m doing pretty well.

“I’ll never be the most technical fighter but if the people can say I’m at least exciting to watch then I’m happy.”

Recently, Al-Hassan offered the same sort of sentiment – excitement and entertainment for the fans is top priority – so it’s a perfect match that these two bulls butt heads on Friday, November 12 at the River Cree Resort and Casino, just outside Edmonton, Alberta. Their clash is a sure-fire recipe for fireworks, and likely a top contender for the MFC light heavyweight title.

“Razak is going to be a tough fight,” offered Lewis, who has won eight of his last nine – the only interruption to the winning streak being his disappointing decision loss to Emanuel Newton at MFC 25.

“He’s big and strong and well-conditioned. He comes from a strong camp and has a good record with seven of his 10 wins coming by submission in the first round. But that being said I present quite a few dangers myself. It’s going to be a great fight. He’s never been knocked out and I’ve never been submitted.

“I don’t take any offense when he says he’s excited to fight me. I know he’s not going to take me lightly – that wouldn’t be very smart – and I’m not taking him lightly either.”

Lewis may be treading lightly now but come first bell, it’s a good bet to expect an explosion of raw power.

“I really don’t know if I can take him out in the same fashion that I did with Nickels but I will say this … my fight style isn’t a secret. I always look for the early KO.”

Megumi Fujii and Zoila Frausto earn spots in Bellator Women's Championship fight with wins at Bellator 31

Lake Charles, LA (September 30, 2010) — Bellator Fighting Championships made its first trip to Lake Charles, LA tonight with Bellator 31. A sellout crowd at the L’Auberge du Lac Resort enjoyed an exciting night of fights highlighted by two Season 3 Women’s semifinal matchups with the #1 ranked pound-for-pound female fighter in the world Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii taking on dangerous veteran Lisa Ward and explosive striker Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Frausto facing submission specialist Jessica “Jag” Aguilar. Also on the card was a Bellator Season 4 Welterweight Tournament Qualifying fight between undefeated knockout artist Chris "The Assassin" Lozano and dangerous UFC veteran Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida.


It was Frausto and Aguilar who kicked off the Women’s semifinal action, with "The Warrior Princess" establishing herself as the more aggressive fighter at the sound of the opening bell. As the fight progressed, Frausto made use of her devastating leg kicks to gain the advantage, before Aguilar begain to gain momentum on the feet in the third and final round. After three back-and-forth rounds of action, it was Frausto who picked up the hard-fought split decision victory and a spot in the Women’s Final match set to take place in Florida on October 28. “Jessica was incredibly tough tonight, but I thought I did really well,” said Frausto. “I’m just really excited to fight in the Finals.”

In the night’s second Women’s semifinal of the evening, it was Fujii pushing the action early against Ward, cautiously looking for an opening. As Ward recovered from an early first round takedown, Fujii attacked and locked Ward up in a fight ending armbar submission that forced the tap. The impressive victory kept Fujii’s perfect record intact, which gave her a new MMA record, and more importantly punched her ticket to the Bellator Women’s Final.

“Now I get to go back to Japan and rest up,” said an excited Fujii. “For the championship fight against Zoila, I’m really going to focus on my striking ability, and come back to the States strong and try and win the Bellator Championship.”

In Welterweight action Chris “The Assassin” Lozano faced former UFC fighter and dangerous Judo black belt Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida. Lozano took control early in the fight, delivering a spinning elbow to the ribs of Yoshida that sent him to the canvas. "The Assassin" picked up where he left off in the second round, where a hard right hand caused Yoshida's eye to swell almost completely shut, and forced the stoppage at the conclusion of the round.

“We saw some great fights tonight, including a razor thin decision that went Zoila’s way,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “This facility was great, and we really enjoyed ourselves here at L’Auberge du Lac Resort, and would love to come back.”
