Tim Hague back in UFC, will fight Matt Mitrione at ‘Fight for the Troops 2’

By Mike Johnston

Edmonton, Alberta native Tim “The Thrashing Machine” Hague is back in the UFC once again and will fight Matt Mitrione on January 22 at an event to “support the troops.”

After three consecutive losses in the UFC, Hague was released by the organization earlier this year. But, after picking up two knockout wins in the Canadian promotion Aggression MMA, Hague is getting another chance.

“The Thrashing Machine” is already back in the gym getting in shape for Mitrione. An avid hunter, Hague is forgoing the woods for the workout room. “Instead of waitin' on a deer, drinkin' beer and wastin' bullets, I've got 2-3 a days all week @ the gym. Oh well, it'll pay off,” said Hague via facebook.

His opponent, Mitrione, is 3-0 in the UFC since being a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 10. With impressive wins over Marcus Jones, Joey Beltran and Kimbo Slice, Mitrione is making a name for himself in the heavyweight division.

Based on common opponents and recent octagon performances, Hague will enter this bout as the underdog. In Hague’s last UFC fight, he lost an exciting, albeit controversial, decision to Beltran at UFC 113 in Montreal. Meanwhile Mitrione won a unanimous decision over Beltran at UFC 119.

Both men like to stand and trade, which should make for an exciting fight. Look for it to be a brawl with Mitrione having a speed advantage, but Hague with an edge in power. For more info on the UFC and its second Fight for the Troops event, stay tuned to ufc.com.
