34-year-old Toronto native Sean Pierson is set to make his UFC debut in front of fellow Canadians at UFC 124 in Montreal on December 11. Pierson has replaced an injured T.J. Waldburger and will face TUF 7 veteran Matt Riddle in a welterweight matchup.
Holding a record of 10-4, Pierson has been a professional mixed martial artist since 1999 and is a veteran of the Canadian MMA scene. Of his 14 professional fights, nine have taken place in Quebec, so Pierson should be well adapted to the atmosphere that will be present in the Bell Centre. He is currently riding a five-fight win streak, with all five of those victories being by first round stoppage. His most recent win was a quick TKO of Ricky Goodall at W-1: New Ground in Halifax, N.S. on October 23.
The Pierson-Riddle fight will be part of the unaired preliminary card. Although he is taking the fight on short notice, Pierson told sportsnet.ca that’s no problem. “This opportunity just came up real quick,” Pierson said. “I’ve still got six weeks (to prepare for the fight), and I'm just coming off a training camp as well. All in all, I'm ready for this.”
