Chris Horodecki to face Ed Ratcliff at WEC 51

By Mike Johnston

Ontario’s Chris “The Polish Hammer” Horodecki’s next opponent will be Ed “9mm” Ratcliff, according to recent reports. Sources close to both fighters and the event have confirmed that the two lightweights agreed to meet at WEC 51, which takes place September 30.

The two were supposed to meet at WEC 49 in Edmonton in June, however Ratcliff (7-2) was forced off the card due to an injury. Horodecki (15-2) instead fought last-minute replacement Danny Downes and won via third round submission much to the delight of the Canadian crowd.

Horodecki joins his longtime teammate, training partner and friend, Mark Hominick, on the WEC 51 card. Hominick will take on Leonard Garcia in what should be a thrilling featherweight slugfest. The fact the two Team Tompkins products are on the same card could be a positive omen, since every time Hominick and Horodecki fight on the same card- dating back to when the two were both fighting in the Canadian TKO organization- both come out victorious.

The 22-year-old London, Ontario native is a veteran of 17 MMA contests, but is still growing as a fighter; he will be 23 come fight night. His opponent is looking forward to returning to action. Ratcliff has not fought since losing to Donald Cerrone at WEC 45 last December. Despite the long layoff, Ratcliff is not lacking in confidence, recently tweeting: “About to put a serious beatdown on Horodecki on Sep 30th.”

WEC 51 is shaping up to be another outstanding night of fights. Canadian fans will be able to watch WEC 51 on The Score and Versus. For more information on World Extreme Cagefighting visit wec.tv.
