It appears as though Canadian superstar Georges St. Pierre can mark his next title defense down on his calendar. His opponent and fellow Ultimate Fighter 12 coach, Josh Koscheck, announced via twitter that December 11th would be the date he and St. Pierre will meet.
The announcement comes just days after filming for TUF 12 ended. “Can't wait until TUF 12 airs in September! And oh yeah, did you guys know, that I am going to be the next welterweight champion come Dec. 11th,” tweeted the confident number one contender to GSP’s belt.
This will be a rematch of a fight from UFC 74 where GSP defeated Koscheck by unanimous decision. That win marked the first in a streak of seven consecutive wins for the French-Canadian, including four straight title defenses. St. Pierre has not fought since he dismantled Dan Hardy at UFC 111 in March. Koscheck defeated Paul Daley at UFC 113 in Montreal to earn his shot against St. Pierre.
Things have come full circle for Koscheck. He was one of the original Ultimate Fighter Season 1 cast members and now he is a coach. Also, he joins the likes of Kenny Florian, Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans, Joe Stevenson, Diego Sanchez and Matt Serra (although Serra was already a well-established UFC veteran) as TUF cast members who went on to earn a title shot.
The Ultimate Fighter Season 12: Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck premieres Sept. 15 on Spike TV and can be seen weekly in Canada on Rogers Sportsnet. The premiere will air directly after UFC Fight Night 22 that features a middleweight matchup between Demian Maia and Alan Belcher.
The TUF 12 finale is scheduled for December 4, one week before the coaches meet to determine who the UFC welterweight king is. Presumably, this event will be UFC 123, though nothing is finalized and the UFC could shuffle their schedule in the meantime.
