At Fort Hood, Texas, in front of several thousand men and women in the armed forces, the UFC put on a show that benefitted the military across North America. Canadian Mark Hominick earned the chance to fight Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship at UFC 129 in Toronto, as he knocked out George Roop in less than 90 seconds. Hominick proved why he is one of the best strikers in the sport, landing punches at will and had Roop on queer street rather quickly.
The main event saw Melvin Guillard continue his win streak by defeating the highly touted Evan Dunham in the first round of their lightweight bout. Guillard rocked Dunham with fast right hands and defended Dunham’s takedown attempts with his athleticism. Guillard dropped Dunham with a straight right hand and followed it up with what appeared to be an inadvertent illegal knee and some other strikes before the referee stepped in.
In the co-main, Matt Mitrione defeated event Edmonton’s Tim Hague via TKO in the first round of their heavyweight bout. The loss was Hague’s fourth straight loss in the UFC. Mitrione improved to 4-0 in the UFC and is one of the top prospects in the heavyweight division.
Also on the main card, Matt Wiman won a dominant unanimous decision over Cole Miller in a lightweight bout. Wiman was relentless with strikes and ground-and-pound en route to his most impressive win to date. Plus, Pat Berry defeated Joey Beltran by unanimous decision. Berry and Beltran went toe-to-toe for three rounds and by the end of it Beltran could not stand on his left leg, which Berry repeatedly kicked. Afterwards, Berry gave an emotional, heartfelt speech dedicated to the military; Berry’s father died while serving his country 25 years ago.

In preliminary action, Yves Edwards choked a choke artist unconscious. He defeated guillotine master Cody McKenzie by rear-naked choke late in the second round. DeMarcus Johnson submitted Mike Guymon with a body triangle, something rarely seen in MMA. Rani Yahya upset the heavily favoured Mike Brown with a unanimous decision. It marks the fourth loss in six fights for Brown. Waylon Lowe, Charlie Brenneman and Chris Cariaso won unanimous decisions over Willamy Freire, Almicar Alves and Will Campuzano respectively.
