Main Card

Canadian Mike Ricci vs. Patrick Curran

One of our Canadian Hopes for a championship in the tournament, Mike Ricci is a GSP protege and an amazing fighter all on his own.
The main card has begun and the atmosphere is buzzing,
Mike Ricci walks out and looks poised and ready, Pat Curran walks out and is looking fit and ready for war.
Mike Ricci has a clear height and reach advantage, a few kicks exchanged but a slow start, Ricci is circling and Curran is trying to close the distance.  Curran is beginning to press the action, Ricci looks annoyed by the kicks, very different body types for the same weight class, WOW impressive KO win for Curran, out of nowhere a huge combo ending with a right hand has Ricci out cold and the doctors are now attending to him as he lies on the floor.   Ricci gets up and shakes it off, he leaves the cage on his own.

Pat Curran winner by KO at 3:01 of the first round and advances to the second round of the tournament.

Shad Lierley vs, Wilson Reis

Round 1
Both fighters come to the ring looking ready to light it up, I have a feeling this one is gonna be good Shad is a BIG featherweight, he will definitely have the strength advantage.
They both come to the center of the ring they start swinging heavy right away, Wilson moving quick both fighters putting it all out there, Shad throws knee and Wilson throws him to his back .  Not much happening on the ground, Shad scrambles and they are back on their feet, back and forth action great fight.  Wilson has Shad's back and is trying to secure the hooks for a rear naked choke lots of action Amazing first round!

Round 2

Wilson moving well and they start swinging heavy again, scramble on the ground and both fighters working for position.  They are working slowly on the ground, not much action, Wilson on top looking to free up his posture to rain down some bombs.  Wilson on top but not able to do much with his position, Shad is holding on tight.

Round 3

Wilson takes control early in the round and it looks like it is going to be another battle on the ground.  Wilson Reis is controlling his opponent from the top position and has passed to full mount raining down very systematic punches and being conservative.  Wilson starting to rain down, Shad gives his back and Wilson takes the win by rear naked choke at  3:32  of the third round and moves to the next round of the tournament.

Ben Askren vs. Ryan Thomas

Ryan Thomas comes out and does not look very confident, Ben on the other hand is looking like he is ready to roll, I think Askren is gonna show us what he can really do he is looking very focused.
Askren is stalking Thomas right away Askren shows us his wrestling pedigree as he easily takes down his opponent, a close call as Ryan almost submits Askren with a triangle choke.Thomas sweeps Ben and Ben sweeps him back a great battle on the ground.
Ben Askren submits his opponent with an Anaconda choke.  Their is some confusion as it appears that Ryan Thomas did not tap and the crowd is not happy, but the result is final Ben Askren moves to the next round of the welterweight tournament with a submission win at 2:40 of the first round.  It appears that the ref was getting no reponse from Thomas and therefore called the fight thinking he was out cold.

James Krause vs. Toby Imada

The submission of the year winner last year Toby imada is up next will we see another spectaculr submission tonight?
Round 1
Big exchanges as these two waste no time Toby looks to have good movement they go to the ground with Toby on top.  Toby on top throwing down punches Toby gets James' back and starts to work, Toby is completely controlling his opponent.  Krause sweeps and Toby looking for Submission.  Round ends with them both on their feet.

Round 2
Toby drops James with a punch as he moves in, Imada now on top looking for submission.  Imada on the bottom now still looking for sub, back on their feet now they scramble for position and Toby ends up on top in a scramble.  Toby pulls off a beautiful armbar from the bottom and he now moves on in the lightweight tournament.

Non-televised fights

Women's MMa fight

Jessica Rakoczy vs. Felice Herring

Round 1
Felice is the clear favorite with the crowd and they start out throwing big punches right away and go to the clinch, both fighters work for position and they go to the ground with Felice on top.  They fight for position on the ground but the action is slow, Felice now on the bottom as Jessica works to posture up and get some room to work.  Jessica gets swept and Herring starts to work, she is throwing down hard elbows as the round comes to close.

Round 2
Both fighters start out swinging again this round and they hit the ground, Felice works for submissions right away, on her back she is very active as she goes from sub to sub, but Jessica is tough and hard to submit she continues to get free and they are back to their feet.
Felice jumps guard and looks for a guillotine but gets slammed for her efforts, and they are back on the ground with Jessica on top.  Great battle as Felice continues to look for submissions and Jessica is fighting back strong to end the round.

Round 3
These girls are here to fight, once again they begin to trade as soon as the bell rings, again they clinch and fight for position, the girls are starting to look tired, it has been a war.
Both girls trying to stay active but it is clear they have slowed, both fighters are still working but neither one has much power or gas left in the tank.
Jessica looks for her timing and Felice goes under her punches and looks unsuccessfully for the take down.  The girls are starting to react to the crowd and pour it on to finish the fight, good fight but very hard to score could go either way but I would give it to Felice 29-28.
Split decision winner Felice Herrig

Bryan Goldsby vs. Jeff Curran

Round 1
Strikeforce, UFC, WEC, you name it he's been there the bullfrog, Jeff Curran former Jiu jitzu coach for Team Tompkins takes on Bryan Goldsby.
Curran throws some hard leg kicks, big punches being thrown and these two are looking to cause damage, some good exchanges by both fighters but no one getting the upper hand.
Goldsby throws big spinning kick, they scramble and hit the ground with Bryan throwing some bombs before getting tied up by Curran.
Fight is on the ground and moving quickly, no real damage done and they are on their feet with Goldsby stalking Curran and cutting him with a big elbow to end the round.

Round 2
Curran looks hard for the takedown but is reversed and ends up on his back, Goldsby in side control looking to drop some elbows.  Jeff does not look comfortable in there as Bryan begins to find his range, Curran is bleeding pretty good from above his right eye but he is starting to pick up the pace but is slammed to the mat again.  Some unorthadox strikes end the second round.

Round 3
Third round starts out like the second ended with wild strikes and heavy punches, Curran looks to be picking up the pace and doing much better this round, it looks like Goldsby is tiring.  Both fighters tired but staying active, Jeff Curran the more active and effective of the two, although neither fighter is doing much.  One minute left and they both land a big shot on each other but recover, Jeff trying hard to hurt his opponent but not having any luck, oww Curran gets hit hard in the cup.  Neither fighter is being very effective but they are both trying.  Goldsby is clearly trying not to engage and is breathing with his mouth open.  The fight comes to an end with judges decision.
all three score it 29-28 for Goldsby

A Great night of fights make sure to check out the post fight press conference
