One of Canada’s most respected mixed martial artists, Joe “El Dirte” Doerksen, is stepping in on short notice for the injured Tim Creduer at UFC 113. A veteran of a whopping 56 fights, Doerksen has never been one to turn down a fight. His opponent will be up-and-coming middleweight and Ultimate Fighter Season 8 cast member Tom “The Filthy Mauler” Lawlor.
Both men are colourful characters and well-rounded fighters, so this should be an entertaining fight for the fans. Lawlor is coming off a “Fight of the Night” performance, however, despite the impressive showing, he lost a controversial split decision to Aaron Simpson at UFC Fight Night 20. In his 11-year career Doerksen has wins over the likes of Chris Leben, Dennis Kang, Ed Herman and Patrick Cote. The Winnipeg native is currently riding a five-fight win streak outside of the promotion. His last loss was at UFC 83 to fellow Canadian Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald.
Now, with the addition of Doerksen, there will be five Canadians fighting at UFC 113 including Sam Stout, Patrick Cote, T.J. Grant and Jonathan Goulet. A light heavyweight title rematch between champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will headline the card. The co-main event is a battle between two welterweight contenders, Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley. The event takes place May 8 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and is available to order on pay-per-view.
