The WEC has pencilled in a date for its Canadian debut, according to a report. The first show north of the border for UFC’s sister promotion is expected take place June 20 at the Stampede Corral in Calgary.
According to TopMMAnews.com, the Calgary Combative Sports Commission confirmed the WEC had booked that date for an event.
WEC general manager Reed Harris told sportsnet.ca in January the organization expected to do an event in Canada some time in 2010, and Calgary was one of the locations they were eyeing. The UFC will be in Montreal for the third time in May and has also scheduled an event in Vancouver, which is expected to take place on June 12.
Meanwhile, MMAmania.com reported Wednesday that the Vancouver show might be in jeopardy. The website cited sources suggesting there is still a lot of red tape to get through following the city’s approval in December of a two-year trial period for mixed martial arts regulation.
