(Video Post) Fighter Profile:Muay Thai Specialist Mark "Boots" Holst OAMA (Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts)


I fisrt saw this young fighter at Freedom fight in Gatineau, Quebec in January of 08, against Justin Doyon (Team Shredder- Sudbury Ontario Canada). And in what was one of the most exciting fights of the night  "Boots" put on a very impressive display of his top notch muay thai skills. The fight was brought to a stop very quickly into the 1st round after Mark opened his opponent up with some vicious knees and was awarded the TKO victory.
I knew right after that he was gonna be one fighter that we had to keep our eyes on.

4- How long have you been fighting MMA? And what is your backround? What exactly got you into Fighting?

I turned pro MMA in Jan 2006. I have a black belt in shotokan karate, I have been training kickboxing and thai boxing for 7 years. I got into fighting to represent my team and my teacher.

5- Where do you train? And what skill sets do you favour?

I train at Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts (OAMA)\ Team Renzo Gracie Ottawa. My goal is to be a well rounded MMA fighter but I favor the striking.

6- What is your fight record?

7-1

7- What was your best fight? and worst? and why?

My best and my worst fight is against Martin Grandmont. I felt really good for that fight and did really good up until the end when Martin caught me on the button and got the KO.

8- What is your main skill set?

muay thai

9- Which would you like to improve the most?

wrestling

10- When and Where and Who is your next fight?

March 20th for the XKL lightweight belt in Detroit against Corey Hill

11- What is your main training goal?

to be a strong, fit and well rounded MMA fighter

12- What advice do you have for new fighters here in Canada?

Surround yourself with people that care about you and your goals and that want to take you to the top and help you. Eat, sleep, train. And dont listen to anyone that says "you cant...."

13- Do you think Canada is producing the best fighters in the world? and why?

There is great fighters coming from Canada and im sure we will have many more Canadian UFC champions.

14- What is the biggest hurdle ahead of you in the ring/cage?

Putting everything together and getting my wrestling skills up.

15- What advice do you have for any up and comming fighters?

Eat, sleep, train. Stay focused, know what you want, fight for the right reasons and take one fight at the time.

16- Who is your favourite and least favourite fighter?

Renzo Gracie. I do not dislike any fighters, they have all stepped inside the cage...enough said.

17- Anyone in particular you would like to fight withing the next yr?

Martin Grandmont.

18- If you wern't gonna be a fighter what would you want to do?

19- Who would you compare your fight style to be most like?

People have said Anderson Silva, maybe one day ;)

20- Any comments you would like to add?
