“THE TRUTH” WILL BE TOLD AT UFC LIVE: VERA VS. JONES EXCLUSIVELY IN CANADA ON SPORTSNET

Light heavyweight stars Brandon Vera and Jon Jones highlight main card



TORONTO (March 15, 2010) – Rogers Sportsnet will be the only Canadian destination for UFC Live: Vera vs. Jones airing live on Sunday, March 21 on Sportsnet East, Sportsnet East HD, Sportsnet Ontario and Sportsnet Ontario HD starting at 9 p.m. (ET)/6 p.m. (PT).



The event will also be available on tape delay that same night on Sportsnet West and Sportsnet West HD beginning at 9 pm (MT) and Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet Pacific HD at 9 p.m. (PT).



“This is arguably the greatest UFC card that may ever be broadcast on free television,” says MMA Connected host “Showdown” Joe Ferraro. Free fights of this high calibre are a rarity; that's why there is such a huge buzz about this card."



The main card will feature top light heavyweight contenders Brandon “The Truth” Vera and Jon “Bones” Jones. Both are coming off controversial losses in their previous fights, Vera losing a unanimous decision to veteran Randy Couture at UFC 105 in November. Jones suffered his first ever professional loss during the Ultimate Fighter – Season 10 finale in December when he was disqualified after using an illegal elbow against Matt Hamill in the first round. Both are looking to move one step closer to a shot at the title with a win.



Other match-ups on include an all-Brazilian heavyweight match-up between striker Junior “Cigano” dos Santos and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga. Dos Santos is coming off a dominating performance over Gilbert Yvel while Gonzaga had a first-round knockout over Chris Tuchscherer.



Former French kickboxer Cheick Kongo looks to climb back up the heavyweight ladder as he takes on Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello. Buentello had been part of the UFC in 2005-2006 and lost a title bout to Andrei Arlovski at UFC 55. He has since fought for both Strikeforce and Affliction before returning last December at UFC 107.
