Major signing-Cole Konrad, Brock Lesnar training partner- coming to Bellator

Cole Konrad, the former NCAA wrestling champion and current Brock Lesner training partner, announced tonight that he has signed and exclusive long-term contract with Bellator Fighting Championships.

Konrad made the announcement after his first round TKO of Joel Wyatt in Philadelphia. The win improved Konrad’s pro MMA record to 2-0.

Heavyweight Cole Konrad is Bellator-bound
following second career MMA victory

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. (February 27, 2010) — Two-time NCAA heavyweight wrestling champion Cole Konrad is the latest highly sought-after MMA prospect to join Bellator Fighting Championships growing roster of top fighters.

Konrad made the revelation during a backstage interview earlier tonight following a first round TKO (doctor’s stoppage) of Joel Wyatt during a Matrix Fights event in Philadelphia. The win improved Konrad's professional record to 2-0.

Konrad broke the news during a post-fight interview after he was asked about his plans for the future. He said that he had been pursued by a variety of other promotions, but made the choice to sign with Bellator.

“I’m excited to sign with Bellator,” Konrad said. “It’s a great opportunity to fight for a great company and I’m just really excited for what the future holds with this company.”

In attendance to watch Konrad's performance was Bellator Fighting Championships founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney, who addressed his promotion's latest blue chip acquisition with the media following the event.

“Cole Konrad brings some great characteristics to the table that could make him a force at heavyweight,” Rebney said. “Brock Lesner’s dominance in the UFC has shown the impact that an elite, world-class wrestler can have in the heavyweight division. As a two-time NCAA heavyweight champion who is aggressively rounding out his MMA arsenal, Cole’s potential is unlimited. We are happy to be teaming up with him and, as a company, we are excited with what the future may hold.”

Prior to making his professional MMA debut earlier this month in Fargo, N.D., Konrad's greatest claim to fame in the sport had been his role as a full-time training partner of current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. Konrad is a fixture at Lesner’s training camps in Alexandria, Minn. Konrad's professional debut took place on Jan. 23 with the former aspiring NFL offensive lineman recording his first-ever win just 1:07 into Round 1 following a “polar bear choke” against Gary Hamen.

With his formidable amateur wrestling credentials and close affiliation with Lesnar, Konrad's recent entry into the professional MMA ranks is a hot topic among fight fans. According to Matrix Fights promoters, ticket sales and media requests surged dramatically following the surprise announcement early this month that Konrad had been added to the co-main event of its first-ever show.

“Cole has already generated quite a buzz,” Rebney said. “We are happy not only to announce our long-term deal with him but to reveal that fans will be able to see his next fight on one of our nationally televised May events on FOX Sports Net, NBC and Telemundo.”
Could we see images of this in Bellator soon, I think so with a Man -Beast like Cole Konad the Heavyweight division better be on watch, sure he has only had 2 MMA fights, but how many did Brock have when he beat Randy Couture for the UFC Heavyweight title...3.  We have been offered an interview with Cole and you can be sure that we will be following up on that as soon as the details are worked out.

Bellator's second season will continue for 11 consecutive weeks following the April 8 kickoff in Florida with a third season already planned and slated to start in August. After making a strong debut in its first season last year on ESPN Deportes, Rebney announced a landmark television deal this past fall that included new partnerships with FOX Sports Net, NBC, and Telemundo.

Much like Season 1, Bellator will be conducting tournaments at 145, 155, 170, and 185 lbs. during Season 2 with the winners earning title shots against the promotion's respective champions in each weight class.

Ontario ban on MMA , will you sign a petition to lift it?–Poll Results 53 say yes – 4 say no – 39 say get it to me NOW!!

Now I am not trying to claim I know a whole lot about politics, but one thing I do know is that Ontario is in love with MMA. Now considering that the UFC released a report stating that they sell more PPV’s per capita in Ontario than anywhere and that the first time the UFC was in Montreal, it was estimated that a percentage as high as 90% of the fans were from Ontario.
Those numbers are staggering and in today’s economy we cannot afford to be giving our hard earned dollars to other provinces and countries; not to mention it sucks traveling. You the fans had voted VERY strongly in favour of the ban to be lifted and although we already knew that was how it would go, it gives us the motivation to get things rolling. If you, or anyone you know has a gym or another highly trafficked area to get a petition there to get as many signatures as possible, let us know. We need to act, the government will not listen to the UFC apparently, but maybe they will listen to us, the voters. Let’s get this done together!!

MFC 24: Heat XC breaking news Kilkenny backs out of clash with Kuchera Feb.25 2010

The MFC 24: Heat XC bout between Jared Kilkenny and Jason Kuchera has been cancelled after Kilkenny backed out of the fight the day of the weigh-in.

                                                                                (picture Kilkenny)
No explanation was given for his last-minute refusal to fight. It is a disappointing turn of events for Kuchera who had worked diligently to get into top physical condition for the encounter. Kuchera, who had even agreed to take the bout at a catchweight of 210 pounds to accommodate Kilkenny, was eyeing a knockout victory that would have put him back in the mix amongst the Heat XC's top light heavyweights.

Kuchera is very likely to be on one of the Pavelich Sports Inc. upcoming shows - the MFC 25 showcase on Friday, May 7 at the Edmonton Northlands Expo Centre or the soon-to-announced first Heat XC card of 2010.

(video post) UFC Undisputed 2010

A new-and-improved version of the bestselling "UFC Undisputed" videogame franchise hits store shelves on May 25, and a sneak peek of the game is now available.

Videogame media outlet IGN released an interview with UFC president Dana White that includes some of the updated features – such as the inclusion of southpaw fighters and stances.

Check out the embedded clip as White discusses the game and some of the new features.

The UFC boss said last year's debut version, which hit 3.5 million units sold following the recent holiday season, will quickly become a thing of the past thanks to the improved version. He said the game's makers, THQ, have already made the switch.

"The guys at THQ that play this game daily said they don't even play (the) 2009 (version) because this one is so much better," White said.

Additional new features for the 2010 version include an expanded fighter roster, a redesign of clinch work and ground grappling, better fighter customization, new fighting styles such as Sambo, and better online and tournament modes. "UFC 2009 Undisputed," which won the "Best Individual Sports Game" category at the 2009 VGA Awards, was already considered the best MMA videogame ever made.

"UFC 2010 Undisputed" will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms.

MFC this weekend The Texas Gunslinger" Yves Edwards faces Derrick "The Eraser" Noble

Come out and watch One of Canada's premier events Friday February 26th at the River Cree resort and Casino..check out the rest of the article for more info on this exciting, high-profile event.

Four fighters facing pivotal situations at MFC 24 in Enoch, AB
Canada

How do you improve upon the success of Maximum Fighting Championship, Canada's leading mixed martial arts promotion? Easy. You simply combine it with Heat XC, Canada's second-leading mixed martial arts promotion.

That's the premise behind the upcoming MFC 24: Heat XC event scheduled for the River Cree Resort and Casino on February 26. Two all-star promotions, one star-studded event.

Just don't tell any of the talent in Heat XC they're second best, even to the big guns mixing it up under the MFC banner. You can be sure that fighters like Jason Kuchera, who's ended his last two contests in violent fashion, will be looking to prove that he's one of many up-and-coming Heat XC fighters on the precipice of superstardom.

In fact, with a six-fight undercard set to launch the Feb. 26 event, there's going to be an extra layer of pressure for the main card combatants to perform. Don't expect well-traveled veterans like "The Texas Gunslinger" Yves Edwards and Derrick "The Eraser" Noble to simply rest on their laurels come fight night.

This is about more than just winning and losing. This is about bragging rights. And no matter the outcome, the fans stand to be the real winners. Longevity in the mixed martial arts industry hinges on the ability of a fight promotion to entertain its fans with high production values and quality matchups. To date, MFC and Heat XC have continued to be successful by not just staying ahead of the curve, but by putting the fans first, as evidenced by their decision to stream MFC 24: Heat XC live online via http://www.maximumfighting.com/.

And it's no secret that competition breeds innovation and ultimately, success.

Of course the reward is only as sweet as the risk that accompanies it. Having two brands succeed in one show is a triumph - having them fail could be a disaster. Can MFC and Heat XC set the bar even higher? That depends on the performance of the talent, but there is no better insurance policy than stacking a card with venerable warriors like Tom “Kong” Watson, David Heath and Travis “The Gladiator” Galbraith.

Pavelich Sports, Inc., may have put all their eggs in one basket, but that's why the world's best mixed martial artists are continually migrating to the industry's fastest growing fight promotion. MFC and Heat XC aren't using the runoff from North American MMA organizations to feed their business model - they're paving their own way.

Mark Pavelich recently warned his roster of fighters that pulling guard was a one-way ticket to unemployment. Pulling guard, as we know, is a way to play it safe, to find a comfort zone when faced with great risk during battle.

It's a concept that is common to the MMA community, but foreign to Pavelich. And it’s obvious from the decision to showcase the two brands on one card that they aren’t pulling guard when it comes to fighting their way to the forefront of the mixed martial arts industry.

(video post)World decorated wrestler Clint "the Hammer" Kingsbury victorious in debut

One thing that is for sure, wrestling carries over quite naturally into MMA.  The hard work ethic the weight cutting, the toughness, the day-in day-out grind to be the best in your sport...all this is can be described in either MMA or wrestling.
If you are an Adrenaline fighter you already know the name Clint Kingsbury, cause everyone is talking about him.  He has helped numerous fighters young and old with their wrestling abilities at Adrenaline, but this isn't wrestling and it was his turn to perform,  "the Hammer" did not disappoint.  In what I would call a very decisive and controlling victory Clint went on to hammer his opponent into a stoppage at 1:42 of the 2nd round.  While his stand-up definitely looked like it needed a lot of work before he is anywhere close to his ground game, his striking was servicable and will most certainly improve.  Expect more from this Exciting top prospect coming out of Adrenaline.
